Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does, hereby, commend the South Side Local Development Company, The Brashear Association and numerous South Side shops and restaurants for their dedication and efforts to produce the South Side Soup Contest, bringing economic vitality and positive promotion to the East Carson Street business district; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does, hereby, declare February 19, 2011 to be “South Side Soup Contest Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on February 19, 2011 South Side chefs will face-off, once again, for bragging rights to the title of "South Side's Best Soup" at the
7th Annual South Side Soup Contest; and,
 
WHEREAS, participating shops in the East Carson Street business district will once again host delicious soups prepared by neighborhood restaurants, while offering great deals in their stores, for over 1,200 participants; and,
 
WHEREAS, the South Side Soup Contest has gone green, with starch-based, 100% compostable soup bowls and spoons used, and Green Gears pedicabs providing emissions-free transportation; and,    
 
WHEREAS, this event, founded and managed by the South Side Local Development Company, sponsored by First National Bank, supports the Brashear Association, for the purpose of funding two community food pantries in South Side and Arlington which serve approximately 500 individuals each month; and,
