Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does, hereby, commend the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh for carrying on the legacy of Andrew Carnegie and serving the citizens of Pittsburgh, and the surrounding area, far beyond any expectations he had. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares the week of February 14 - 18 to be Love Your Library Week in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Andrew Carnegie said 'There is not such a cradle of democracy upon the earth as the Free Public Library, this republic of letters, where neither rank, office, nor wealth receives the slightest consideration'; and
WHEREAS, Broadcaster Walter Cronkite said 'Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation'; and
WHEREAS, these are just two testimonials to the value of the libraries we honor during Love Your Library Week, February 14-18; and
WHEREAS, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh was established as a public trust in 1895 and has served the citizens of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County with a distinguished history of leadership among the country's great public libraries; and
WHEREAS, in 2010, over 2.2 million people visited the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh making the CLP the region's most visited asset and more than 4.3 million visited the Library's web-site to access important informational resources; and
WHEREAS, the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh offers a collection of more than 5 million items; free internet access; quality educational programs for kids, teens and adults;  professional librarians qualified to assist with research of any questions; meeting spaces for community groups; homework help and reference assistance; and resources for job seekers.
