Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Diocese of Pittsburgh for continuing to have a reputation for academic excellence and instilling spiritual values in your students; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, February 1, 2011, to be “Catholic Schools Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Diocese of Pittsburgh celebrates Catholic Schools Week January 30 through February 5, 2011 with events emphasizing the theme "Catholic Schools: A+ for America"; and,
 
WHEREAS, Catholic Schools Week began in 1974 and it is a joint project of the National Catholic Educational Association, the world's largest private, professional education association and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops; and,
 
WHEREAS, this Year's theme, "Catholic Schools: A+ for America", celebrates the fact that Catholic schools are a plus for the nation due to their traditionally high academic standards and high graduation rates; and,
 
WHEREAS, in addition to the academics, Catholic Schools add strong moral values and a high level of service to local communities because of the many service projects students undertake which all add up to a positive contribution to American society; and,
