Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer Christopher Berdnik for all of his accomplishments during his tenure with the Pittsburgh Board of Education; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Council does hereby declare Tuesday, January 25, 2011, to be “Christopher Berdnik Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, former Pittsburgh Public Schools business manager Christopher Berdnik, husband of Helen, father of Brooke, Christopher Jr., Stephanie and Ryan; son of Carl, a retired school principal, Martha, a retired school teacher, brother of Carla, a school vice principal and Victoria; began his tenure on June 1, 1995 and faithfully served every Board Member and Superintendent through eight promotions and 16 years of service, most recently as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer; and

WHEREAS, the School District's taxpayers enjoyed 10 consecutive years without a school tax increase; and

WHEREAS, under Mr. Berdnik's leadership, the District's budget, comprehensive annual financial report, and popular annual financial report have received consistent national recognition for outstanding transparency by the Association of School Business Officials International and the Government Finance Officers Association; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry selected Mr. Berdnik's joint labor-management workplace safety committee with the Governor's Award for Safety Excellence and the Pennsylvania Self-Insurers' Association recognized Mr. Berdnik and his team with its Award of Excellence for management of the District's self-insured, self-administered workers' compensation program; and

WHEREAS, in 2005, 2006, and yet again in 2008, the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials recognized Mr. Berdnik with its prestigious Award of Achievement for “Maximizing Medicaid Reimbursement”, “Workplace Accident and Illness Prevention”, and “The 2006-07 Duquesne and Pittsburgh School District Business Office Partnership”; and

WHEREAS, in 2006 and again in 2009, Mr. Berdnik's purchasing function attained the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing's Outstanding Agency Accreditation Achievement Award; and

WHEREAS, in 2010, the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials bestowed its Award of Excell...
