WHEREAS, the second annual Get Involved! Service Summit will be held on January 26, 2011 at Carlow University; and
WHEREAS, the event is presented by Baker Leadership and seeks to inspire participants to become more civically engaged and make a difference in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Baker Leadership is led by Tom Baker, a motivational speaker and author; and
WHEREAS, the summit will leaders inspire members of the region through the annual Service Summit because it brings together hundreds of students and civic leaders and features excellent keynote speakers including authors, government officials and non-profit leaders who inspire and educate participants about how they can make a larger handprint through service in the community; and
WHEREAS, awards will be given to the following individuals for winning 2011 awards:
Get Involved! Man of the Year- Senator John Pippy
Get Involved! Woman of the Year- Kate Dewey
Get Involved! Male Emerging Community Leader- Tim Lessick (18-25 years old)
Get Involved! Female Emerging Community Leader- Alyssa DiLoreto (18-25 years old)
Dr. Tom Baker Community Leader Award- Dr. Carol Utay
"The Patty Award"- Patty Verostko Award for Child Advocacy- Liz Healey
WHEREAS, the event will also honor the Class of 2011 Western Pennsylvania Rising Stars
Pam Coudriet, Raquel Davila, Marissa Doyle, Megan Good, Judy Feldman, Kelsey Halling, Raymar Hampshire, Alexa Jennings, Katelyn King, David Landes, Chris Metz, Mike Palcsey, Jordan Pallitto, Alma Roberts, Les Scales, David Slusarick, Abe Taleb, RJ Thompson, Danielle Tyson, Andy Walz, and Sarah Welch; and
WHEREAS, the summit will host a small exposition of business and non-profit organizations to offer a forum for presenters and participants to meet, network, and learn about ways to increase their involvement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks the Get Involved! Service Summit for encouraging people to become more active and engaged in their communities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares January 26, 2011, "'Get Involved! Service Summit Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
