Body
WHEREAS, for the residents of Excelsior Street, in the City's Allentown neighborhood, Tuesday, January 4, 2011, started out like any other day on this tight-knit street; and
WHEREAS, all of that changed at 11:40 a.m. when a fire broke out in the kitchen of the Lubawski home, where home owner Kevin Lubawski and his 2 year old son, Elijah, were napping on the living room couch; and
WHEREAS, neighbor Anita Nolan saw the smoke and called to her husband Joseph, who ran to the front porch of the Lubawski home and looked in the front window where the smoke was so thick he couldn't see Kevin or Elijah, but heard Kevin screaming for someone to break the window; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Nolan picked up a stroller, broke the window, reached inside and grabbed Elijah from the couch, pulling him out to the fresh air and cleared Elijah's airway so that he could breathe freely; and
WHEREAS, Richard Zaremski, another neighbor on Excelsior, heard the uproar and rushed to the aid of his neighbors, when he reached the porch, he could see that Mr. Lubawski was having a hard time breathing and was losing consciousness; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Zaremski kicked in the front door and in spite of the smoke being so thick that it knocked him down, Mr. Zaremski went inside and dragged Mr. Lubawski to safety.
