WHEREAS, Amen Corner celebrates its 140th anniversary December 9, 2010 and will honor Rick Sebak, producer at WQED-TV with its 2010 David L. Lawrence Public Service Award for excellence in Community Service and Leadership; and
WHEREAS, past winners of this award include Joseph F. Lagana, Founder, Homeless Children's Education Fund, Bob Fragasso, Chairman & CEO, Fragasso Financial Advisors and Past-President and Board of Director, Animal Friends and Larry Dunn, Owner, Larry Dunn Associates; longtime Chairman, Amen Corner Law Enforcement Luncheon; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sebak exemplifies this award through the documentary television programs he brings to the City of Pittsburgh and the nation depicting life as it is and as it was; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sebak brings his true sense of curiosity, love of Pittsburgh, people and history, drawing from the fun, off-center side of life to uncover facts that few know or remember not just to produce, but to experience, showcase and celebrate his subjects in such a way that he pulls the viewer into each story and making them feel they are exploring the subject along with him, his homey voice and descriptions keep the viewer in their seat and glued to the television; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sebak has been nominated for two national Emmy awards for his production, Fred Rogers, America's Favorite Neighbor, Mr. Sebak is also recognized for his Pittsburgh History Series including Kennywood Memories, Things That Aren't There Anymore and The Strip Show along with his national presentations A Hot Dog Program, An Ice Cream Show and A Cemetery Special; and
WHEREAS, before returning to his Pittsburgh area roots (he grew up in Bethel Park) Mr. Sebak worked for eleven at the South Carolina Educational Television Network in Columbia, South Carolina and he is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a 1971 graduate of Bethel Park High School; and
