WHEREAS, on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Temple Sinai in Squirrel Hill, family and friends gathered to celebrate the Bar Mitzvah of Collin Louis DeWitt, son of Sarah and Andrew DeWitt, and brother of Evan and Jacqueline DeWitt, all outstanding residents of Pittsburgh's great Squirrel Hill neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, a Bar Mitzvah is the rite and an important milestone, wherein a Jewish teenage male is welcomed as the first step into adulthood; and
WHEREAS, the health and vitality of the City of Pittsburgh is reflected in the participation of its young adults in those activities that further the strength of the community; and
WHEREAS, Collin Louis DeWitt, a seventh grade student at Community Day School, has taken a leading role in the Jewish tradition of giving, that when done properly, requires sharing one's compassion and empathy along with money or aid, by volunteering, donating, and advocating for the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, as his Bar Mitzvah project; and
WHEREAS, Collin Louis DeWitt has come to appreciate the thousands of people who turn to the library every day seeking a book, a job, free internet access, a place to gather with friends, and a connection with their community, continuing Andrew Carnegie's vision that free access to information is the foundation of a democratic society, as he built Pittsburgh's libraries, and tasked the community with their ongoing support; and
WHEREAS, Collin Louis DeWitt represents the future of Pittsburgh and the endless possibilities for our great city;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby express our heartiest congratulations to Collin Louis DeWitt on the celebration of his Bar Mitzvah, and extends to this fine citizen our very best wishes for his continuing spiritual fulfillment and future success.
