WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project (PUMP) was created in 1995 to make Pittsburgh a more dynamic and diverse place to live by giving young and young-thinking people a voice and inspiring them to affect change in our community through civic engagement, professional development, recreation and social networking; and,
WHEREAS, PUMP has grown from a small neighborhood group into a professionally run nonprofit organization made up of young and young-thinking people and has built a national reputation for youth retention and engagement programming; and,
WHEREAS, PUMP enables young professionals to meet and become engaged with each other in order to inspire a sense of community; and,
WHEREAS, PUMP involves young and young-thinking professionals in areas such as civic engagement, in ways such as organizing educational forums and collaborating with community leaders; community development which includes initiatives to increase access to jobs, housing and culturally rich experiences; and social networking by providing a wide array of social networking opportunities through sports-oriented recreation through the Pittsburgh Sports League and other gatherings; and,
WHEREAS, the year of 2010 marks the 15th Anniversary of the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project and the work they do in giving young and young-thinking people a voice in our community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, December 7, 2010, to be "PUMP Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
