WHEREAS, Gregg Gillis is an internationally known artist who mashes together digital samples to create new songs, all under the stage name Girl Talk; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gillis is a native of Bridgeville and graduated from Chartiers Valley High School; and
WHEREAS, early in his musical career, Mr. Gillis worked at a biomedical engineering firm as a human tissue engineer during the week and would travel on the weekends to perform at shows around the world, without his colleagues knowing; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gillis has released five albums under the label, Illegal Art, Secret Diary, Unstoppable, Night Ripper, Feed the Animals and All Day; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gillis has received numerous awards for Feed the Animals, including reaching number four on Time's Top 10 Albums of 2008, #24 on the Rolling Stone Top 50 albums of 2008, and the second-best recording/album of 2008 from Blender magazine, and NPR listeners rated it the 16th best album of the year; and
WHEREAS, All Day contains 372 samples and was released as a free download so it would be easily accessible to fans; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gillis now resides in the Polish Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gillis recently opened the new Stage AE club and amphitheatre with two sold out performances.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the innovative and creative talents of Gregg Gillis and thanks him for continuing to make his home in Pittsburgh; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 7, 2010 "Gregg Gillis Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
