WHEREAS, Alberto Adam Altshuler, 18 years old, of Troop 109, has met all the necessary requirements to advance within the Boy Scouts of America to the Eagle Scout ranking - the highest - only five percent of boys attain this level of achievement; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Altshuler's parents, Nathan and Sheila Altshuler, are sharing in the celebration of their son's accomplishments, as are troop leader Harold Caplan (who has held his position for over 20 years), assistant troop leader Ben Neustein, and Steve Schwartz (a Boy Scout volunteer for over 40 years); and
WHEREAS, Mr. Altshuler has been a Boy Scout for six years and has met all requirements in the areas of Leadership, Service, and Outdoor skill to advance to the Eagle Scout rank; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Altshuler completed his Eagle project at the Schaare Zedek Cemetery by filling in sinkholes and repairing a brick entrance, benefiting not only the families of the deceased, but also the non-profit Jewish Cemetery and Burial Association; and
WHEREAS, this young man has earned the Paul Bunyan Woodsman Award along with 42 other merit badges (almost double the required amount), signifying his dedication, exceptional work ethic and mastery in various areas including citizenship training, personal fitness, biology, engineering, aviation and overall character development; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and celebrate the outstanding achievements of Alberto Adam Altshuler, congratulates him on his advancement to the rank of Eagle Scout, and does declare December 11, 2010, to be "Alberto Adam Altshuler Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
