WHEREAS, Jamie and Ali McMutrie founded the non-profit organization, Haitian Orphan Rescue, in February of 2010 in response to a devastating earthquake that damaged the island; and
WHEREAS, the mission of Haitian Orphan Rescue is to educate people about the plight of orphans in Haiti, to raise funds to help build a new orphanage, and to provide food, water, medicine and other supplies to Haitian orphans in need; and
WHEREAS, to support their fundraising efforts, the McMutries hosted the third annual Ti Kanaval benefit on November 13, 2010; and
WHEREAS, the McMutries plan to build the new orphanage on a 5 acre site located approximately 20 miles north of Port-au-Prince; and
WHEREAS, the new orphanage will be designed to meet the needs of the children, staff and visitors, constructed to withstand future natural disasters and will use sustainable practices.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the efforts of Jamie and Ali McMutrie through Haitian Orphan Rescue to create a safe and nurturing environment for Haitian children to learn, grow and transition into adoptive families; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare November 16, 2010, "Haitian Orphan Rescue Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
