Title: Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Inc., Omicron Chapter for its members' passion for humanity and selfless dedication to our communities; and Be It Further Resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim November 12th - 14th, 2010 as the “Alpha Phi Alpha” conference weekend in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, since its founding on December 4, 1906, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has supplied voice and vision to the struggle of African-Americans and people of color around the world; and
Whereas, Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African-Americans, was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York by seven college men who recognized the need for a strong bond of Brotherhood among African descendants in this country; and
Whereas, early leaders of the Fraternity succeeded in laying a firm foundation for Alpha Phi Alpha's principles of scholarship, fellowship, good character, and the uplifting of humanity. Following the election of the Fifth Convention, the president made Omicron Chapter at the University of Pittsburgh on January 30, 1913; and
Whereas, beginning Friday, November 12 through Sunday, November 14, 2010, more than 100 members representing nearly 20 chapters from across the state of Pennsylvania will join local members of Alpha Phi Alpha to engage in intense dialogue around the fraternity's role in shaping our commonwealth's political landscape.
