Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the PA Breast Cancer Coalition and all of its efforts to find a cure for breast cancer; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 26, 2010, to be “Breast Cancer Awareness Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the PA Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) was formed in 1993 by a group of effective, dedicated, and active breast cancer survivors who had one common mission: to find a cure for breast cancer; and,
WHEREAS, The PBCC is a statewide organization based in Ephrata, Lancaster County that exists to support the women in this state who are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, to support the families who have lost loved ones from breast cancer, and to serve as a resource for the hundreds of thousands of more women currently living with the disease; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of PBCC is accomplished through statewide programs such as the PA Breast Cancer Coalition's annual conference, a statewide virtual support group called Friends Like Me and providing free treatment to uninsured women of low or moderate income who are diagnosed with breast cancer in Pennsylvania through the Commonwealth of PA's Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Program; and,
WHEREAS, a traveling photo exhibit hosted by local communities titled 67 Women - 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania is a touching, educational tribute which showcases at least one woman from each of the state's 67 counties, developed to encourage women to learn about and practice early detection through yearly mammograms, monthly breast self-exams, and annual clinical exams and celebrates the life, courage, hope and dignity of women and families who have battled breast cancer; and,

WHEREAS, the photo exhibit, funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, will be displayed from October 25 through November 8, 2010 at the New Castle District Library in Lawrence County; and,
