Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the efforts of the Allegheny County Bar Association and the Mediation Council of Western PA to promote conflict resolution in the greater Pittsburgh region; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 21, 2010, “Conflict Resolution Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on Thursday, October 21, 2010, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association and the Mediation Council of Western PA will be held an Alternative Disputes Resolution Fair in the lobby of the City-County Building; and
 
WHEREAS, the fair is being held to recognize Conflict Resolution Day, which is celebrated on the third Thursday in October; and
 
WHEREAS, Conflict Resolution Day was created in 2005 by the Association for Conflict Resolution in order to bring more awareness to the availability and advantages of conflict resolution; and
 
WHEREAS, the goals of Conflict Resolution Day are to promote awareness of mediation and other creative, peaceful means of resolving conflict; promote the use of conflict resolution in schools, families, businesses, communities, governments and the legal system; recognize the significant contributions of peaceful conflict resolvers; and obtain national synergy by having celebrations happen across the country and around the world on the same day.
