WHEREAS, the Kullu Valley Bike Project (KVBP) is a Pittsburgh-based non-profit organization that focuses on the Kullu Valley, located in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh; and
WHEREAS, the goal of KVBP is to enrich the lives of the orphans and community members in the Kullu Valley through bike riding, bike maintenance, education and eco-tourism; and
WHEREAS, KVBP plans to develop a bike co-op and an adventure biking eco-tourism program; and
WHEREAS, KVBP will create a curriculum that will include English language skills, business principles, construction projects and mentoring; and
WHEREAS, to further its fundraising goals, KVBP will host "Bikes for India!" on Friday, October 22nd at Shadow Lounge & AVA and a pancake breakfast on Sunday, December 12th at the Doublewide Grille; and
WHEREAS, in January of 2011, KVBP will travel to India and meet up with a team of volunteers to implement its plans.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Kullu Valley Bike Project for its work to improve the lives of children in India through bikes and education; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 19, 2010, "Kullu Valley Bike Project Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
