WHEREAS, in 1953, Joe Natoli founded Morningside Little League and began a storied tradition of youth sports in Morningside; and
WHEREAS, Don Sand grew up playing baseball in Morningside and later served as a volunteer umpire as an adult; and
WHEREAS, Don Sand began coaching Morningside girl's softball in 1990 and continued to coach for 6 years; and
WHEREAS, beginning in 1996 and continuing for 19 years, Don Sand coached the Morningside boy's baseball; and
WHEREAS, Don Sand has acted as a coach, manager, tournament director, and commissioner throughout his years of service to the Morningside Baseball Association; and
WHEREAS, in 2008, Don Sand officially became the President of Morning Baseball Association; and
WHEREAS, in all of his roles within the Morningside Baseball Association, Don Sand has promoted skill development, sportsmanship, and love of the game to youth, as well as parents and fellow volunteers; and
WHEREAS, despite his recent retirement from the position of President of the Morningside Baseball Association, Don Sand will continue to support the Association's commitments to community, excellence and opportunity.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes Don Sand for his unending devotion to the Morningside Baseball Association and the well-being of youth in the City of Pittsburgh; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare in the City of Pittsburgh, Tuesday, October 19, 2010, Don Sand Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
