Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Eagle Scout Austin Murphy on his recent accomplishment for his outstanding achievement of attaining the rank of Eagle Scout; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, October 11, 2010, to be “Austin Murphy Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Eagle Scout Award is a performance-based achievement whereby the Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of responsibility, leadership, service and outdoor skills and it is the highest advancement rank in Scouting of which only 4 percent of youth earn; and,
 
WHEREAS, Austin Murphy, son of Robert and Debbie Murphy, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on October 11, 2010; and,
 
WHEREAS, to obtain Eagle Scout, Austin made no-sew fleece blankets for patients at Children's Hospital accumulating  approximately 79 hours of service work; and,    
 
WHEREAS, Austin was a Cub Scout for 5 years and graduated from the Cub Scouts with the Arrow of Light Award and is currently in Boy Scout Troop 66 of the Greater Pittsburgh Council where he has been for 6  years of which time he has held the leadership position of Senior Patrol Leader; and,
 
WHEREAS, in addition to the normal hours required for Eagle Scout, Austin went above and beyond his duties by earning two Eagle Palms; one bronze and one gold, each requiring five additional merit badges and 3 additional months of service ; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Eagle Scout Austin Murphy on his recent accomplishment for his outstanding achievement of attaining the rank of Eagle Scout; and,
