Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize, commend and congratulate the Pittsburgh Pirate Baseball Club for preserving and memorializing the accomplishments of the 1960 Pirates; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, , that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, October 13, 2010, to be “1960 BEAT 'EM BUCS DAY ” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, October 13, 1960, at 3:36 PM marked one of Pittsburgh's most significant and memorable moments in its history when Bill Mazeroski came to the plate after a rally of N.Y. Yankee hits that tied the game 9-9, and with a count of one ball and no strikes, smashed a historical long drive over the wall in left field, ending the contest and crowning the Pittsburgh Pirates as World Series Champions ; and,
 
WHEREAS described as maybe the greatest game seven in World Series Championship history, the 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates entered the season poised to make a run at the pennant with a roster including players Don Hoak, Dick Groat, Dick Stuart, Bill Mazeroski, Rocky Nelson, Smokey Burgess, Hal Smith, Bob Skinner, Bill Virdon, Roberto Clemente, Roman Mejias, Gino Cimoli, Vernon Law, Bob Friend, Elroy Face, Harvey Haddix, Vinegar Bend Mizell, Dick Schaeffer, Joe Gibbon, Gene Baker, Tom Cheney, Joe Christopher, Bob Oldis, George Witt  and Fred Green,; and,    
 
WHEREAS, Bill Mazeroski, the greatest second baseman of all time, is best known instead for winning the 1960 World Series with a game ending homerun. His heroics in the 1960 Series was just a tip of the iceberg of his importance to the team as a player and a teammate; and,
 
WHEREAS, the 1960 World Series symbolically culminated the first Renaissance of Pittsburgh, creating a group of heroes remembered to this day by a generation of Baby Boomers who continue to pass on the Pirate legacy to their children and grandchildren ; and,
