Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 9, 2010 as Alpha Kappa Sorority, Inc. Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC in 1908.  It is the oldest Greek letter organization, established for African American college educated women; and,
 
WHEREAS, The mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is to promote service to all mankind, with a particular focus on cultivating and encouraging high scholastic and ethical standards, promoting unity and friendship among college women, and to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women to improve social stature; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter is the graduate chapter in the City of Pittsburgh founded in 1927. Alpha Alpha Omega is part of the Great Lakes Region of the sorority.  It will host the 2010 Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania Cluster on Saturday, October 9th.  Renewing the theme of "Global Leadership Through Timeless Service";
