WHEREAS, Dress for Success Pittsburgh (DFS Pittsburgh) was founded in 2005 with the mission to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing attire, a network of support and the career development tools needed to thrive in the workplace and in life; and,
WHEREAS, DFS Pittsburgh's professional clothing program answers an immediate need by providing interview clothing to low-income women seeking employment and once employed, each client is encouraged to return for the clothing that they will need to perform their jobs; and,
WHEREAS, DFS Pittsburgh offers Career Center services and resources including resume and cover letter development, writing instruction, job search assistance, an Internet-accessible computer lab and mock interview simulations, and a Professional Women's Group which offers specific workshops and networking as a job retention and career development tool addressing social and economic needs in relation to work, home, and community; and,
WHEREAS, Since 2005, Dress for Success Pittsburgh has helped over 4700 women and this year alone, they have served over 1200 women in the City of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, Dress for Success Pittsburgh is driven by volunteers who fill not only traditional staff positions but who also offer their time and talents to help Dress for Success fulfill their mission; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Dress for Success Pittsburgh and all of its volunteers and staff or the work they do in improving the lives of women; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 5, 2010, to be "Dress for Success Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
