Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend, recognize and congratulate Riverlife for its visionary leadership and tireless commitment to preserving Pittsburgh's greatest asset, its rivers and shorelines ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, October 8, 2010, to be “RIVERLIFE DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the mission of Riverlife is to reclaim, restore and promote Pittsburgh's riverfronts as the environmental, recreational cultural and economic hub for the people of this region and its visitors; and,

WHEREAS, Riverlife (formerly Riverlife Task Force) is a public-private partnership established in 1999 when a group of Pittsburgh community leaders led by then Mayor Tom Murphy, Teresa Heinz, Paul O'Neill, John Craig and many other business owners, environmentalists and urban planners saw the need to develop a master plan for Pittsburgh's most valuable asset, its river s and shorelines and now serves to guide and advocate for the redevelopment of Pittsburgh's riverfronts, working to reconnect Pittsburgh with its rivers by bringing recreation, ecological restoration and economic opportunity back to our waterfronts; and,

WHEREAS, Riverlife's stewardship extends up the Allegheny River to the 31st Bridge, down the Monongahela River to the Hot Metal Bridge and along the Ohio River to the West End Bridge, integrating the efforts of state, city and private developers to ultimately knit our neighborhoods together and reconnect us with our living environment through this seamless sequence of open spaces for civic engagement; and,

WHEREAS, Riverlife's staff of engineers, urban designers and environmental planners led by Lisa Schroeder, Executive Director, is proud to sponsor and collaborate on a multitude of successful riverfront projects such as the Point State Park Renovations including the Fountain and a Point State Park Café and Dining Patio, the Northside Riverfront Park and Trail, the Convention Center Riverfront Park, the South Side Riverfront Trail and Mon Wharf Landing and Switchback, working with five mayors and two dozen non-profits to impact the environment, economy and recreation in the region ; and,
