WHEREAS, the mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law so that they can become responsible, participating citizens ; and,
WHEREAS, the Eagle Scout designation for the Boy Scouts of America is the highest advancement in Scouting and one in which a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service and outdoor skills ; and,
WHEREAS, to advance to the Eagle Scout rank, a Boy Scout must pass specific tests that are organized by requirements and merit badges, signifying mastery of skills of personal interest in 21 of the 120 available merit badges ; and,
WHEREAS, Steven William Dieckmann of Troop 614, having completed all requirements and having been examined by an Eagle Scout Board of Review, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout; and,
WHEREAS, for his Eagle Scout project, Steven Dieckman designed and taught a "higher" math course to fifth graders in the Elroy Elementary School in Brentwood which ran 6 weeks and because of its success was adopted by the Brentwood High School Math Club and Honor Society to support and promote ; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Steven Dieckmann for his leadership, maturity, organizational skills and hard work and congratulates Steven on earning the highest Boy Scout honor, the Eagle Scout Award.
