Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 28, 2010 to be “Manford and Ann Sales Day” in the City of Pittsburgh and congratulates the couple on their 70th year anniversary, wishing them many more years to come.

WHEREAS, Manford Sales, a retiree of Westinghouse Bettis Atomic Plant and the Johnson-Sales barber shop, and Ann Sales, a former Sunday School teacher, master seamstress, Scholarship Committee member and current Minority Inspector at election polls, were married on October 13th, 1940, and will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary as the proud parents of five children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and,
 
WHEREAS, Manford and Ann Sales share an active history in the community of Pittsburgh, with Mr. Sales joining a small group of African-American men and women during the 1950's to tackle the issue of unequal employment in Pittsburgh as a founding member of the Greater Pittsburgh Improvement League, later to become its President, and Mrs. Sales serving as a lifelong member of the Modern Madames, a woman's community service organization; and,
 
WHEREAS, the couple share a deep love for the Scouts, Mrs. Sales for many years standing by Manford as an honorary Assistant Scout Master preparing meals for the Scouts, camping with the Scouts and taking trips with the Scouts, and Mr. Sales joining Troop 59 in 1928, acting as its Scoutmaster for 60 years up to his current position as Assistant Commissioner of Urban Scouting, in the process receiving a nomination in 2009 to be inducted into the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Boy Scouts Hall of Leadership; and,
 
WHEREAS, Manford and Ann Sales have been members of Ebenezer Baptist Church for 65 years, with Mr. Sales serving on the Deacon Board since being ordained in 1951 and Mrs. Sales serving on the Deaconess Board;
