WHEREAS, after more than 16 years of leadership, George L. Miles, Jr., is stepping down as President and CEO of WQED Multimedia; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Miles joined QED Communications in 1994 and began the process of restructuring and reorganizing the company into a more modern multimedia enterprise; and
WHEREAS, prior to his career in Pittsburgh, Mr. Miles held several positions at other television and radio stations around the country; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Miles also worked as contract auditor for the U.S. Department of Defense and served in the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Miles is a certified public accountant and earned a B.A. in accounting from Seton Hall University, an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University and has received several other honorary degrees; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Miles is an active member of the Pittsburgh community, serving on the board of several businesses, non-profits and broadcasting industry organizations; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Miles resides in Pittsburgh with his wife, Janet.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend George L. Miles Jr. for his dedication in bringing quality programming, both educational and entertaining, to the Pittsburgh region; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 29, 2010 to be "'George L. Miles, Jr. Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
