Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes Robert R. Lavelle and his grandson Pittsburgh City Councilman R. Daniel Lavelle for their unending devotion to the community and the City of Pittsburgh; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 28, 2010, Robert R. and R. Daniel Lavelle Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, R. Daniel Lavelle was born and raised in the Hill District section of the City of Pittsburgh, attended Pittsburgh Public Schools, graduating from Schenley High School and earning his Bachelor of Science degree from Kent State University in 2000; and,

WHEREAS, R. Daniel Lavelle was elected in 2009 to serve as Pittsburgh City Councilman to District 6 which includes the Hill District, Downtown, Uptown, the Strip District, Manchester, Central Northside, California-Kirkbride, and Allegheny West, as well as parts of West Oakland, South Oakland and Fineview; and

WHEREAS, Councilman Lavelle always finds time to give back to his community through service and leadership roles which have included volunteer time as an Assistant Boy Scout Master for Troop 93, and serving on the boards of Wireless Neighborhoods, the League of Young Voters, Hill District YMCA, and other organizations to which he gives freely of his time; and,

WHEREAS, Councilman Lavelle is being recognized as one of 50 Men of Excellence by the New Pittsburgh Courier at their annual recognition event to be held September 30 in the West Club Lounge in Heinz Field; and,

WHEREAS, Councilman Lavelle will be honored on the same list this year as his grandfather, the recently deceased Robert R. Lavelle; and

WHEREAS, Robert Lavelle is perhaps best known publicly for saving Dwelling House Savings from demise and thereby making dreams of homeownership come true for lower-income residents of the City of Pittsburgh for nearly 50 years; and,

WHEREAS, Councilman Lavelle is following in his grandfather's very large footsteps as a realtor dedicated to helping underserved populations in the region, empowering local residents and strengthening our City.
