Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend its adopted son, Bill Cardille, for providing more than five decades of entertainment to the Pittsburgh region; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares September 28, 2010, “Bill Cardille Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Bill Cardille has been a fixture in Pittsburgh television and radio for more than 50 years; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Cardille grew up in Sharon, PA with eight siblings and his parents, William and Frances Cardille; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cardille is a graduate of Sharon High School; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Cardille came to Pittsburgh and signed on Channel 11 on September 1, 1957, the first voice ever heard on the station's air, and went on to host many shows in the station's early years; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Cardille received his nickname, "Chilly Billy," when he hosted "Chiller Theatre," a weekly program that featured horror, fantasy, and science-fiction movies; and
 
WHEREAS, "Chiller Theatre" premiered in 1963 with Mr. Cardille as the off-screen booth announcer and a year later he became the onscreen host and he served in that role until the last episode aired in 1983; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Cardille has retired from television, but he can be found at his daily radio show on WJAS-1320 AM; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Cardille just hosted the annual Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy telethon for the 40th consecutive year; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Cardille and his wife, Louise, have three children, Lori, Billy and Marea, and four grandchildren, Kate, Jake, Charlie and Cooper.
