Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 21, 2010 to be “Schenley Heights Community Development Program Day” in the City of Pittsburgh and commends the SHCDP for its 15 years of dedicated service and support to the community.

WHEREAS, the Schenley Heights Community Development Program, which began its work informally with children and youth through Grace Memorial Presbyterian church, will celebrate its 15th anniversary on September 23, 2010; and,
 
WHEREAS, starting in 1994, Elder Thomas Nelson, a Presbyterian Elder from Ben Avon Presbyterian Church, worked with the pastor and officer of Grace Church to apply for nonprofit status, successfully attained in 1995 as their new work was named the Schenley Heights Community Development Program (SHCDP) after the community to which it belongs; and,
 
WHEREAS, SHCDP's stated mission is to nurture, support and develop the community through wholesome programs that address the academic, moral, cultural, health and recreational needs of its children, youth and families in the Hill District and the greater Metropolitan Pittsburgh area; and,
 
WHEREAS, this goal is achieved through SHCDP's programs, two of the largest being its After School Tutorial and Enrichment Program and its Summer Enrichment Program, while doubling as a cultural hub as the site of organized happenings such as its annual fundraiser "Jazz on the Hill" and CCU Community Luncheons; and,
 
WHEREAS, SHCDP has relied on its varied and fruitful collaborative partnerships with Pittsburgh Public Schools, the Weil After School Program, the Allegheny County Department of Health and Human Services, Clergy and Churches United, public and parochial school administrators of the Hill, United Way Donor Choice Contributors and other faith based organizations to achieve the goals of its mission statement;
