WHERAS, Zach Mulvey, age 9, of Carrick, has a congenital condition known as dilated cardiomyopathy, a disease of the left ventricle that prevents proper blood flow; and
WHEREAS, Zach has received two heart transplants, one in 2001 when he was 10 months old and the second at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC two months ago, in June 2010; and
WHEREAS, Zach is now on 11 medications, taking 15 doses per day, going to physical therapy sessions three times a week and cardiology sessions every week and a half; and
WHEREAS, Zach's family worked with the non-profit organization Jaime's Dream Team to organize a Charity Softball Tournament in August 2010 to raise money for Zach's medical needs; and
WHEREAS, the fundraising event raised more funds than necessary for Zach's immediate medical needs, and Zach has chosen to donate those funds to other sick children, stating that, "I want to help other kids that have to get heart transplants, liver transplants, kidney transplants and all those other transplants
I want to help people who were sick like me"; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and celebrate the life and successes of our young and charitable citizen, Mr. Zach Mulvey, and wish him and his family future health and wellness; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 21, 2010 to be "Zach Mulvey Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
