Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the 2010 Carlow University Women of Spirit® Award winners for their service to the community and excellence in their professional endeavors; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 16, 2010 to be “Women of Spirit Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHERAS, on September 16, 2010, the 2010 Carlow University Women of Spirit® Awards will be held at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture; and
 
WHEREAS, the following women will be honored for their accomplishments:
Dr. Regina Benjamin, Surgeon General of the United States, will receive the National Woman of Spirit® Award
Sister Fidelis McDonough, RSM, Coordinator of Mercy Neighborhood Ministries, will be receive the Woman of Spirit Award® for Values
Theresa L. Whiteside, Ph.D., Laboratory Director, University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, will receive the Woman of Spirit Award® for Scholarship
Judith M. Davenport, D.M.D., retired dentist and community leader, will receive the Woman of Spirit Award® for Vision
Anne Freyvogel Hanna, Philanthropist, community volunteer, and co-founder of Howard Hanna Real Estate, will be honored posthumously with the Women of Spirit® Legacy Award; and
WHEREAS, Carlow University created the Women of Spirit® program in 1993 to recognize the accomplishments of women who are leaders in their fields and who embody the University's mission.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the 2010 Carlow University Women of Spirit® Award winners for their service to the community and excellence in their professional endeavors; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 16, 2010 to be "Women of Spirit Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
