Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor and commend the 456th Bomb Group, ground support and command staff for their contribution in defending and protecting the freedom of the United States of America; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, August 2, 2010, to be “The Day We Don't Forget” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, 456th Bomb Group Association was organized to provide the veterans of the 456th Bomb Group from the World War II time period an avenue to associate, communicate and enjoy friendships; to preserve the history and insure that the sacrifices of the valiant men and women of the 456th Bomb Group of the World War II time period are not forgotten; and,
 
WHEREAS, the 456th Bomb Group was formed on May 14, 1943, 15th Air Force WWII, flying B/24 Liberators to serve Stornara, Italy and was activated on June 1, 1943 along with its four squadrons designated as the 744th, 745th, 746th and the 747th; and,
 
WHEREAS, the 456th Bomb Group flew bombing missions to Northern Italy, Rumania, Austria, Bulgaria, France, Yugoslavia, Germany, Hungary and Czechoslovakia where the targets were factories, communication lines, oil refineries and storage, air domes, troop concentrations, towns and harbors and on October 17, 9145, the Group was inactivated; and,
 
WHEREAS, the members of the 456th Bomb Group earned two Presidential Unit Citations by Major General Twining for valor in combat and for extensively participating in the bombing campaign of the largest crude oil distillation plant in Hungary; and,    
 
WHEREAS, the 456th Bomb Group Association is holding its 67th Reunion August 4 thru August 8 at the Embassy Suites Hotel; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor and commend the 456th Bomb Group, ground support and command staff for their contribution in defending and protecting the freedom of the United States of America; and,
