Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Surviving Parents Coalition for their Ride for Their Lives campaign and for its dedication to ensuring the safety of our youth from abuse and emotional turmoil; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, August 22, 2010, to be “Ride for Their Lives Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Ride for Their Lives campaign is sponsored by the Surviving Parents Coalition, which is an organization of surviving parents of children who were abducted, murdered, sexually assaulted, recovered, or are still missing and whose mission is to advocate for legislative and educational initiatives that will aid in the prevention of crimes against children and youth; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ride for Their Lives is a national, cross country bike ride dedicated to raising funds to advocate for laws that protect our children from predatory crimes; and,
 
WHEREAS, the cross country ride begins on August 21 departing from Rochester NY with a visit from Surviving Parents Coalition members Ed Smart and Ahmad Rivazfar in Pittsburgh, PA on August 22 and ends in Santa Barbara California on September 22, 2010; and,
 
WHEREAS, the three causes being focused on during this ride are DNA on Felony Arrests, which has not been passed in the State of Pennsylvania as of April 23, 2010, the Adam Walsh Act from which there have been 168,908 registered known sex offenders and the Protect Act of 2008, which identified 77,563 computers as trading child pornography in a 48 hour period; and,
