Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend James T. Kunz, Jr. for his talents, leadership and pride to the work of Unions and to ensure new members know their craft; and BE FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends James T. Kunz, Jr. for being named “2010 Labor Man of the Year” and does here by declare Tuesday, July 27, 2010 to be James T. Kunz Jr. Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, James T. Kunz, Jr. grew up in Pine Township and moved to Brighton Heights where he has lived for the past 27 years with his wife of 34 years, Opal, and raised his three children, Shirley, James, III and Alex; and

Whereas, Mr. Kunz, who is currently the Business Manager for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 66, was named “2010 Labor Man of the Year” by his piers of the Allegheny County Labor Council; and

Whereas, Mr. Kunz started his career in Labor in 1976 as a Heavy Equipment Operator; and

Whereas, Mr. Kunz began his rise in the Local 66 in 1995 representing the Union as its Business Representative and was elected to the post of Business Manager in 2004; and

Whereas, Local 66 currently has 7000 members, both men and women, who work in Allegheny County and whose dedicated hard work in the construction industry is observed every day in the quality workmanship they present to municipalities, private businesses and contractors every day; and

Whereas, Mr. Kunz believes in training those coming up through the ranks and is a state and national leader in his industry as chairman of the Board of Trustees of Western Pennsylvania's Operating Engineers Joint Apprenticeship and Training program, Labor Representative on the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, Trustee of the Northeastern states Conference, Secretary of the Pennsylvania State Council, Vice President of the Allegheny County Labor Council of the AFL-CIO, the Building Trades Representative on the MAGLEV Board of Directors and a Board Member for the Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority; and
