Title: WHEREAS, Arthur L. Baldwin, a distinguished alumnus of Penn State University, is celebrating his 80th birthday, and it is fitting that we honor his exceptional career and contributions to the fields of science, engineering, and public service; and,

WHEREAS, Arthur L. Baldwin, a distinguished alumnus of Penn State University, is celebrating his 80th birthday, and it is fitting that we honor his exceptional career and contributions to the fields of science, engineering, and public service; and,

WHEREAS, Baldwin has over 35 years of experience across government, industry, and academia, and is a senior-level official at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) of the United States Department of Energy, where he leads projects in coal and gas, renewable energy, carbon capture, and storage, and plays a key role in developing strategic initiatives that strengthen regional capabilities; and,

WHEREAS, Baldwin's outstanding work has earned him numerous honors, including the DOE's Service to Society Award as part of the President's 1,000 Points of Light Program, the Federal Executive Board's Equal Employment Opportunity Award, and multiple nominations for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers' Service to Society Award; and,

WHEREAS, Baldwin has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to community service, serving on various boards and committees, including the Pennsylvania Commission on Aging, the Heinz History Center Board of Directors, and the McKeesport Counseling and Tutoring Service, a non-profit organization he co-founded to support minority and disadvantaged students; and,

WHEREAS, Baldwin's educational background includes a master's degree in organic chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh, a bachelor's degree in microbiology with a minor in chemistry from Penn State, and extensive coursework toward a Ph.D. and an MBA, showcasing his dedication to lifelong learning and academic achievement;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Pittsburgh City Council and the citizens of Pittsburgh join in celebrating the 80th birthday of Arthur L. Baldwin, recognizing his lifelong contributions to the scientific community, his leadership in public service, and his tireless dedication to bette...
