WHEREAS, NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Health) Keystone Pennsylvania is part of a national affiliate that has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health embodying the values of hope, inclusion, empowerment, compassion and fairness. They envision a world where all people affected by mental ` illness live healthy, fulfilling lives supported by a caring community; and,

WHEREAS, over 20% of adolescents in the United States have a diagnosed mental health condition, 50% of mental health problems are established by age 14, two in five high school students struggle with persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, and suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth and young adults ages 10-24; and,
WHEREAS, NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania, as part of their ongoing commitment to help combat this youth crisis is holding a Youth Mental Health Conference taking place on Friday, February 7, in Downtown, Pittsburgh. We commend NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania as this conference supports youth changemakers, encourages youth mental health leadership, provides resources to help youth navigate trauma and challenges, identifies strategies for positive mental health and offers intervention models to assist youth with mental health concerns; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the NAMI Youth Mental Health Conference and honor NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania for their dedication to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness through education, support, advocacy and awareness and their valiant work on behalf of youth; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, February 7, 2025 as “NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania Youth Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
