Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Colonel Michael P. Crall for his commitment and service to the United States of America; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 13, 2010, to be “Colonel Michael P. Crall Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Colonel Michael P. Crall is a native of the State of New York who assumed command of the Pittsburgh District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the period of July 13, 2007 to July 16, 2010; and,

WHEREAS, as Commander, Colonel Crall managed an annual operating budget in excess of $200 million which funded the planning, engineering, construction, operation, and maintenance of the Pittsburgh District's 23 locks and dams, and16 reservoirs covering 26,000 square miles in a five-state area; and,

WHEREAS, he distinguished himself by his exceptional service with such issues as recognizing the impact to public health and safety of Marcellus Shale drilling and he quickly determined the available Corps authorities to provide emergency relief and assistance during severe flash flooding which provided renewed visibility of the Corps to local communities thereby continuing the theme of “showing value to the region”; and,

WHEREAS, Colonel Crall's decorated career includes the Bronze Star Medal, five Meritorious Service Medals, five Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, the Air Force Achievement Medal, two National Defense Service Medals, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, two Southwest Asia Service Medals, the Afghanistan Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, the Korean Defense Service Medal, two Humanitarian Service Medals, the Saudi Arabia Defense and Kuwaiti Liberation Medals, two Meritorious Unit Citations, the Army Superior Unit Award, the Master Parachutist Badge and Pathfinder Badge; and,

WHEREAS, Colonel Cralls' performance of duty reflects great credit upon himself, the Corps of Engineers, and the United States Army; and,
