WHEREAS, Steve and Linda Smith were married in 1987 and have since raised three children together in the neighborhood of Elliott; and,

WHEREAS, Steve has been involved with the Elliott West End Athletic Association since 1998. He has coached baseball, softball and soccer for the association and was a member of the board. Steve continues to support baseball by coaching an adult league out of Herschel Field; and,
WHEREAS, both Steve and Linda are actively involved within the community. They have attended the West End/Elliott Citizen Council meetings for the past 30 years and participated in numerous local clean ups in the neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, they have volunteered in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Linda volunteered at Steven’s elementary as a member of the PTA and helped fundraise for the school’s events and Steve created a basketball team for local youth ages 10-14 that played in Pittsburgh Stevens and Pittsburgh Westwood schools; and,
WHEREAS, Steve and Linda raise awareness for children with disabilities within the Pittsburgh Public Schools and locally in honor of their son who is living with Autism and was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School system; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Steve and Linda Smith for their volunteerism and dedication to their community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Monday, November 4, 2024 to be “Steve and Linda Smith Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
