WHEREAS, recovery from substance use disorders is possible through a variety of treatment resources, recovery support programs, and many other pathways; and,

WHEREAS, millions of people across the United States are living happy, healthy, and productive lives in recovery; and,

 

WHEREAS, a community of recovery is beneficial to overcoming misconceptions and helping people achieve long-term recovery; and,

 

WHEREAS, on September 7th, 2024, the ninth annual Pittsburgh Recovery Walk will take place across the region to celebrate the process and beauty of recovery from substance use disorder; and,

 

WHEREAS, Joey Pagano has been a Recovery Advocate through organizing Mon Valley’s largest outreach event “Rock for Recovery”, publishing "No Addict Left Behind” & “From Scars to Stars”, and extending great care to over 550 clients’ as a licensed social worker and recovery specialist; and

 

WHEREAS, Melissa Osburn has been a Recovery Caregiver throughout her time at Community Health Services, assisting over 400 people with stable housing as a Community Support Specialist within the State Opioid Recovery Grant, and as support to prevent caregiver burnout; and

 

WHEREAS, Shanea Clancy has been a Recovery Pathway Supporter through being inducted as a Fellow of the International Association of Addiction Nursing, ensuring access to recovery resources for students, and coordinating community events & outreach programs for those in recovery; and

 

WHEREAS, Joey Pagano, Melissa Osburn, and Shanea Clancy have been presented with Pittsburgh Recovery Awards by the 2024 Pittsburgh Recovery Walk;

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the month of September 2024 to be “Addiction Recovery Month” in the City of Pittsburgh, and recognizes Shanea Clancy, Melissa Osburn, and Joey Pagano for their extraordinary efforts to support recovery in our region.
