WHEREAS, on June 28 to July 4, 2010, the Grottoes of North America will hold its convention in Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, this convention will host delegates from all over the United States and Canada for a week of friendship and fellowship; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Islam Grotto, founded in 1911, is the host Grotto of the convention; and
WHEREAS, on June 30, 2010, Clarence E. "Pierre" Shawver, Grand Monarch of the Grottoes of North America, will open the 120th Supreme Session; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Shawver is a clown in the Autmori Grotto Clown unit where he enjoys entertaining children and seeing them smile; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Shawver and his clown unit raise money to provide dental care to children with special needs, including Cerebal Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy and organ transplants.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby welcomes the members of the Grottoes of North America and thanks Grand Monarch Clarence E. "Pierre" Shawver for his efforts to help children with special needs through humor and laughter; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 30, 2010, "Grand Monarch Clarence E. 'Pierre' Shawver Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
