WHEREAS, Roland McKinley Ford was born October 4th, 1948, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He graduated from Schenley High School in 1966 and continued studies at Columbia University in New York City, where he received a scholarship and,

WHEREAS, Roland was an avid runner and ran many short distance races such as the Pittsburgh Marathon. Mr. Ford credited his relationship with God to help him in assisting others to become and stay active. Roland is credited for creating the “One Hundred Steps” challenge which was very popular in the line dancing community. and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Ford birthed his own company called “Dance and Be Fit”. Mr. Ford also worked with the youth at the Pittsburgh Summer Dreamer Academy, and for thirteen years he taught line dancing at jazz in the park concerts series in Highland Park. Roland McKinley Ford will be sorely missed, but should always be remembered as a loving husband, grandfather, brother and friend and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and congratulate Roland McKinley Ford on an amazing career and community impact. and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Saturday, June 8th, 2024, to be “Roland Ford Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
