WHEREAS, on June 25-26, 2010 the Shadow Lounge will host a block party to celebrate its 10th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, using two credit cards and donated furniture, Justin Strong opened the Shadow Lounge at 5972 Baum Boulevard in East Liberty as a venue to hold music and art events; and
WHEREAS, since 2000, the Shadow Lounge has hosted poetry readings, homegrown hip-hop, graffiti exhibitions, rap performances, techno events, spin parties and open-mic nights; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Strong and business partner, Tim Guthrie, have grown the Shadow Lounge into a destination spot for culture and nightlife that has been an anchor during the revitalization and renewal of East Liberty; and
WHEREAS, because of the success of the Shadow Lounge, the owners were able to open an adjoining bar lounge called AVA; and
WHEREAS, the two venues host local and national artists, performing a range of genres, including hip-hop, reggae, soul and jazz music.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby congratulates Shadow Lounge on celebrating its 10th anniversary and thanks its owners for ten years of promoting independent music and art in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 25, 2010, "Shadow Lounge Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
