Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes Rodef Shalom for presenting its first Pursuer of Peace Award and commends its first honoree, The Most Reverend Bishop David A. Zubik, D.D., for his efforts throughout his career to promote peace and understanding; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 27, 2010, “Pursuer of Peace Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on June 27, 2010, the first-ever Pursuer of Peace Award will be presented by Rodef Shalom to The Most Reverend David A. Zubik, D.D.; and
 
WHEREAS, the Pursuer of Peace Award recognizes the significant commitment and sustained contributions of an individual or organization to the pursuit of peace through the fostering of interfaith understanding, the encouragement of humanitarianism, and the promotion of a social justice agenda in an effort to bring healing to our fractured world; and
 
WHEREAS, a native of the Pittsburgh region, Bishop Zubik served many roles in the Pittsburgh Diocese at the beginning of his priesthood and eventually was named the eleventh Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay before he was called back to Pittsburgh to serve as its twelfth Bishop; and
 
WHEREAS, the Rodef Shalom congregation values Bishop Zubik as a strong friend of Pittsburgh's Jewish community and selected him for the award because of his commitment to interfaith dialogue and education.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 27, 2010, "Pursuer of Peace Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
