WHEREAS, Dr. Jerri Lynn Lippert is the Chief Academic Officer of Pittsburgh Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lippert worked to create the Pittsburgh Emerging Leadership Academy (PELA), a year long residency and training program which prepares young academic leaders to be principals of Pittsburgh Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, PELA graduates have been assigned to be principals within Pittsburgh Public Schools and many of those schools have seen increases in reading and math proficiency that are greater than the average increases seen across the district; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lippert has displayed a tireless work ethic that has allowed her to establish a sense of urgency to improve education standards amongst the teachers and administrators in Pittsburgh Public Schools and its communities; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lippert has shown dedication to revitalizing Pittsburgh Public Schools through superior curriculum and instruction development; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lippert has been a courageous leader in addressing the racial achievement disparities in Pittsburgh Public Schools.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes Dr. Jerri Lynn Lippert for her commitment and dedication to educating students and training professionals in the Pittsburgh Public Schools; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 11, 2010, "Dr. Jerri Lynn Lippert Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
