WHEREAS, the Obediah Cole Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2006 to promote education, awareness and early detection of prostate cancer; and,
WHEREAS, founded by prostate cancer survivors Jerry Bortman and Jerry Livingston and former Pittsburgh Steeler Robin Cole, whose 5 of 7 brothers, father and uncle all had prostate cancer, the organization, named for Robin Cole's father, is dedicated to keeping race proceeds in Western Pennsylvania and to focus on the underserved and under insured; and,
WHEREAS, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed non-skin cancer in America with 200,000 predicted cases each year surpassing breast cancer cases, placing one in six American men at lifetime risk of developing prostate cancer ; and,
WHEREAS, prostate cancer is one of the most treatable and survivable cancers if detected early with detection is as simple as a blood test; and,
WHEREAS, the Obediah Cole Foundation for Prostate Cancer will sponsor the Seventh Annual 2010 Father's Day 5/10K Race and Walk on Sunday, June 20, 2010, at River Front Park, Heinz Field Gate A, at 8AM with PNC as its Presenting Sponsor and an expectation of over 2000 participants; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Jerry Bortman, Jerry Livingston and Robin Cole and the Obediah Cole Foundation for Prostate Cancer for their remarkable dedication to educating the public and promoting early detection of prostate cancer ; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, June 20, 2010, to be " OBEDIAH COLE FOUNDATION 5K/10K RUN/WALK DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
