WHEREAS, Joy Sato was the Director of Special Events at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts for over twenty years and has worked tirelessly in her love and support of Mellon Park. Joy worked around the clock, to make the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, the Walled Garden and all of Mellon Park welcoming to every part of our community.

WHEREAS, Joy vigorously supported arts, music and crafts by welcoming and supporting all who presented their work or performed in Mellon Park & the Marshall Building. Joy used her own artistry and personal commitment to enhance hundreds of celebrations!

WHEREAS, Joy’s inclusive community collaborations include the Latin, Polish, African American, and LBGTQIA communities. Ms. Sato’s efforts to make Mellon Park and the Center for the Arts a welcoming and inclusive center for expression and celebration are seen in the usage of the park’s present day.
and,
WHEREAS, Although Joy’s official park duties have come to an end, she continues to be present in Mellon Park and enhances our community.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 27th, 2024, to be “Joy Sato Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
