Resolution authorizing the Mayor and the Director of Public Works and/or Director of Parks and Recreation to rename the Dunseith Street Playground, located in the 4th Ward, as "Shalane's Play Yard" effective September 10, 2010.
Body
WHEREAS, Shalane Graham was born and raised on Dunseith Street; and
WHEREAS, Shalane was a dedicated member of the community working closely with Breachmenders, Friendship Church programs, Hill District Midget Football, and Youth Works; and
WHEREAS, Shalane and her friends and family grew up using the Dunseith Street playground for community enrichment, as a children's playground, and a family gathering spot; and
WHEREAS, Shalane was tragically killed on November 29, 2008 at her home in Oakhill; and
WHEREAS, moving forward this community playground will be used by Shalane's child K'hlaya Dior Graham and other community residents to foster positive memories and create new meaningful relationships in the community; and
WHEREAS, the City has received petitions signed by 50 residents requesting that the Dunseith Playground be renamed, "Shalane's Play Yard."
Be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. The Mayor and the Director of Public Works and/or Director of Parks and Recreation are hereby authorized to rename the Dunseith Street Playground, "Shalane's Play Yard" effective September 10, 2010.
