Body
WHEREAS, on Friday night before the first Sunday in May, 1885, a small group of people made their first start toward organizing a church.  This group consisted of Jeremiah Fitzgerald, Thomas and Annie Ransome, Wilmore Johnson, Alexander Barbour, William Dangerfield, Samuel Loveless and Amanda Holmes; and

WHEREAS, with the fortitude, foresight, and faith, this church soon grew over the years and under the guidance of Rev. Simms the church erected a frame building.  The congregation quickly outgrew this building making it quite necessary for the erection of a larger church; and

WHEREAS, over the past 125 years the Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church has endured many trials and tribulations, yet it still continues to press on by faith. The old physical structure burned down, but today Rodman still stands as an example of hope despite adversity; and

WHEREAS, past and present leaders of Rodman have laid a solid foundation for future generations to follow.  Under such leadership, the Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church has moved into a multi-million dollar Educational and Administration wing which will give them more space to minister to the community and its membership, where currently, Rev. D.T. Canady serves as pastor; and

WHEREAS, the 125th anniversary celebration will begin Tuesday, May 18 and end through Sunday, May 23, 2010.  The theme for this occasion is: "Looking Back with Pride and Gratitude, Looking Forward with a Hopeful Attitude" (Titus 2:13).
