Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh, Barbara Reed Martin, Joanne Kehris, Leslie Montgomery, Lynn Ussack, Becky Magnelli and Lea Edmonds for the exceptional work they do for seriously ill children and their families; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 20 , 2010, to be “Ronald McDonald House Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia in the year 1974 and as of 2008 the Ronald McDonald House program has 291 homes in 30 countries and Ronald McDonald House Charities is located in 52 countries and regions; and,

WHEREAS ,after 35 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities continues to focus on the critical needs of children by providing a way for families to stay together close to treatment hospitals in a comfortable setting while being cared for during their stay; and,

WHEREAS, in 1979, the Ronald McDonald House opened its doors for the first time in Pittsburgh through the efforts of families, McDonald's owner/operators, medical and business communities and the Pittsburgh Steelers; this was the seventh Ronald McDonald House in the nation; and,

WHEREAS, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh offers a Care Mobile which brings vital medical services to care for children who lack transportation, or are medically underserved with the help of pediatricians, nurses, nurse practitioners and respiratory therapists from Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, Executive Director Bill Grattan of the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Pittsburgh is retiring after 29 years with the charity and became involved with the charity as a founding member of the Board of Directors in 1977; and,

WHEREAS, Ronald McDonald House Charities welcomes the new Executive Director Barbara Reed Martin to carry on their great work; and,
