WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh senior volunteers make significant contributions that provide healthy active independent living to their local communities and to the nation; and,
WHEREAS, over 1,000 senior volunteers have contributed 100,000 hours of volunteer service worth over $1.5 million to the citizens of Pittsburgh during the 2009 calendar year; and,
WHEREAS, on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the annual Senior Volunteer Recognition Day, Pittsburgh senior volunteers were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the quality of life in the City of Pittsburgh and to their Senior Community Centers and programs;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the recipients of the Senior Volunteer Recognition Awards and commends their contributions to the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 11, 2010 to be "Senior Volunteer Recognition Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
