WHEREAS, Charlie Wilson, one of the most distinguished voices in R & B music and a two time 2010 Grammy Award Nominee, is a prostate cancer survivor ; and,
WHEREAS, Charlie Wilson, learning that 1 in every 6 men would be diagnosed with prostate cancer including 1 in every 3 African American men, and after becoming a prostate cancer survivor in remission due to an early diagnosis, decided it was time to start "informing as well as performing"; and,
WHEREAS, Charlie Wilson has become a spokesperson for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, which is the world's largest philanthropic source of support for prostate research focused on discovering better treatments and a cure for recurrent prostate cancer; and,
WHEREAS, as part of his commitment to assist in aiding the Prostate Cancer Foundation to continue their research, Charlie Wilson designed his own signature Fedora hats, named Uncle Charlie Hats, whose proceeds benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Charlie Wilson's music and honors his commitment to educating men about the importance of yearly checkups and early screening for prostate cancer; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, May 14, 2010, to be "CHARLIE WILSON DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
